Mailchimp Guide: How to Set up and Send Your First Campaign

Now that you have set up your Mailchimp account (if you haven’t, click here) and designed your first email, you’re ready to create and send your first email campaign. Whatever your goal, this guide will help guide you step-by-step.

How to Set up Your First Campaign

After setting up your account and building your forms, it’s time to create a campaign.

Step 1: Create a Campaign

To start, navigate to Campaigns in the menu, then click on the Create Campaign button.

After clicking on the button, a new pop-up will appear with various types of campaigns to choose from including Email, Ad, Landing Page, Survey, Social Post, Signup form, and Postcard.

Step 2: Choose Email Type

Next, you must choose between:
  • Regular is used when you want to build a campaign that will be sent once.
  • Automated is a good option to use when you want to send different emails for specific occasions such as welcoming a new subscriber.
  • Plaintext is when you want to send an email without images, fancy styles, or embedded hyperlinks.

After choosing your type email, enter a Campaign Name. Once entered, click Begin.

Step 3: Draft Email

To

Choose the audience list the email will be sent to.

From

Add the email address that will show subscribers who the email is from. It’s best to use an email address and name which your subscribers will recognize, such as your business name.

Subject

Add an engaging subject line that will urge your audience to open the email.

Content

Design your email in the Content section.

You can choose a template layout that is available for your free account.

When you’re done designing your email, click on Continue.

Before sending your email, you can Send a Test Email to ensure everything is correct and that there aren’t any errors.

Step 4: Schedule or Send Email

After you have designed the email and added the appropriate copy, images, links, etc., it’s time to send your campaign.

If you’re not ready to send, you can schedule your campaign to send at a later time or date.

Share Your Campaign

If you’d like to share your campaign link on other channels, you can copy the link generated by Mailchimp.
