The Challenge
Showerline provides custom-built shower enclosures, bath screens, room dividers, and more to homeowners or businesses that are in the process of building or renovating their spaces.
In 2020 hackers targeted the Showerline website and added a malicious redirect to the site. That meant that when Showerline customers went to the site, it sent the traffic to another URL that had nothing to do with Showerline. The Showerline team reached out to Silicon Overdrive to investigate and resolve the hack.
The first step that the Silicon Overdrive team took was to restore the site using a backup from before the hack. Then the team installed WordFence and updated the WordPress core, and all the plugins. Two weeks later the site was hacked again, and Silicon Overdrive needed to investigate further.
How the site looked before the rebuild
The Solution
Silicon Overdrive conducted an audit of all the plugins on the site and determined that no vulnerable plugins were installed.
The next step was to audit the site theme and check for vulnerabilities. The team discovered that there was a known security issue with the version of the Divi theme installed.
Silicon Overdrive did not develop the site, and since the Divi theme is a premium theme that had been customised by another developer, we were unable to update it. We reached out to the developer who built the site, but they never replied. During this period the site was hacked and restored a few times.
While discussing the best solution with Showerline, we determined that the best way forward would be to replace the site’s theme. And since the Showerline website design was also feeling out of date, it would also allow us to modernise the website.
As part of replacing the Divi theme, Silicon Overdrive redesigned the site to improve the UX (user experience) and make it more modern and responsive.
The Outcome
After the rebuild Silicon Overdrive had WordFence do a premium scan of the site to ensure that there were no security issues with the site. The WordFence audit confirmed that the site was now secure.
The new site looks better, is easier to navigate, and its load time has increased by 45%.
